Why October is the best month to explore the area
Autumn is when these neighborhoods show off. The maples along Bethany's streets and over Oak Hills' mid-century homes turn gold and amber, the air gets crisp, and the farm country just west and south of the corridor comes alive with pumpkin patches, corn mazes and harvest weekends. It is also, conveniently, a great month to be touring homes, because a neighborhood in its best season is the honest version of what you would be buying into.
Every farm below is real, and every date and detail was checked against the farm's own 2026 season information before we published this. Season dates and hours can still shift with weather, so confirm on each farm's website before you drive.
The closest patches to Bethany and Oak Hills
Hoffman Farms Store in the Scholls area of Beaverton is the closest full pumpkin patch experience to this corridor, off Scholls Ferry Road. Admission to the farm is free, and you can pick pumpkins, lose yourself in their roughly 10-acre corn maze (ticketed), ride the Scholls Valley Railroad train and stock up at the bakery and farm store. Their fall season typically opens late September and runs into late October, most years Wednesdays through Sundays.
Scholls Ferry Farm in Hillsboro is another free-admission option with a you-pick pumpkin patch, open daily through October 31 in past seasons. And Lee Farms in Tualatin runs a classic fall harvest festival with hayrides out to the pumpkin patch and corn maze; its 2026 dates were still being finalized when we checked, so look at their site before planning the day.
Corn mazes and farm festivals within a half hour
If the whole family is up for a proper farm day, Plumper Farms in northwest Portland has one of the area's biggest fall setups: pumpkin patch, corn maze, hayrides, farm animals and tube slides, running a set 2026 season from September 19 through November 1, Wednesdays through Sundays.
Roloff Farms in Hillsboro hosts its Pumpkin Festival on the first weekends of October, with the 2026 festival weekends listed for early October. Farther out on Sauvie Island, Bella Organic Farm runs its corn maze through October 31 with a you-pick patch, a good choice for a full day trip with a stop at a farm stand on the way back.
Farm-stand days closer to home
You do not have to leave the suburbs for autumn flavor. The Beaverton Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through November 21, 2026, with local produce, flowers and crafts, and the market has celebrated Halloween on a late-October Saturday in past years with pumpkin decorating, crafts and trick-or-treating.
Bethany Village Centre also runs its own fall calendar, from the Oktoberfest earlier in September to the Halloween Hunt on October 31 and the holiday tree lighting in December. A Saturday morning at the village market-style events plus an afternoon at a patch makes a full, honest autumn day without a long drive.
Fold a pumpkin patch into your home search
Here is the local trick we recommend to buyers: schedule your open-house route for a weekend morning, then take the kids (or yourselves) to a patch in the afternoon. You see the neighborhoods at their liveliest, the commute from home to farm tells you a lot about the area's geography, and nobody has to choose between house hunting and autumn.
Add a walk around Bethany Lake Park while the leaves are turning, and you have seen the corridor the way it is actually lived: village, lake, schools and farms all within minutes. If you want a route planned, including which open houses are worth your Saturday, ask us. We do this every fall, and we love it.
Confirm before you drive
One honest caveat: farm season dates and hours change year to year and week to week, and a rainy week can close a field early. Treat every date here as a starting point and confirm on the farm's own website, not a third-party roundup, before you load the car.
And if you are visiting the area for the first time to look at homes, a fall weekend is the perfect introduction: the neighborhoods at their most beautiful, the harvest season at full strength, and plenty of reasons to imagine yourself living here. Ask us what else is happening locally and we will point you at the good stuff.
