Welcome to the digest

This is our Local News Digest for the week of October 27, 2026: a short roundup of positive and genuinely useful news from the Portland metro and Washington County, with an eye on the businesses, schools and housing shaping the corridor around Bethany and Oak Hills.

Six stories this week, each with a two-sentence summary and a link to the full reporting. We also refreshed our community events calendar today: listings that have passed have been archived, and the page now reflects what is actually upcoming, with a few new November and December additions.

A new business opens its doors in Beaverton

The Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting and reception for Ravish Ink on Tuesday, October 27 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., with the ribbon cut at 5:30 p.m. Ravish Ink is a permanent makeup, microblading and cosmetic-tattoo studio and state-certified training academy in Beaverton, a new local business worth knowing about for anyone in the corridor.

The Chamber's calendar carried the event and registration, and the studio's own site describes its services and training academy.

Diego Valeri's wine makes a Beaverton stop

Syndicate Wine Bar's monthly Winery Spotlight series features Conur Wines with Diego Valeri on Thursday, October 29 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 12620 SW First Street. Valeri, the beloved former Portland Timbers playmaker known as The Maestro, created Conur Wines with a longtime Argentine friend, and the label is produced at Hyland Vineyards in Dundee, Oregon, blending Argentine tradition with Oregon wine.

It is a relaxed evening at the community wine bar with a genuine Timbers connection, and the Downtown Beaverton Association lists it on its events calendar.

A Voters' Pamphlet misprint, and what to do

Washington County officials have disclosed a misprint in the Voters' Pamphlet for the November 3 general election: a page-layout error means the candidate statements for the three U.S. Senate candidates are not all grouped together as expected. The misprint was reported by The Oregonian this week as ballots were already in voters' hands.

The county's elections page hosts the corrected current Voters' Pamphlet, and the races are all still on your ballot: the error is in the pamphlet layout, not the ballot itself. Ballots are due by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, and our voter's guide walks through the mechanics.

Keeping kids warm this winter

The Beaverton School District, which serves Bethany, kicked off its Clothes for Kids plus Toyota coat drive this month, collecting winter coats and clothing for students in need across the district. The district's coverage noted Springville Elementary alone gathered 100 coats as part of the effort.

It is a concrete way to help neighbors this fall: clean, gently used or new winter coats, boots and clothing can be donated through the drive, and the district's news post has the details on how to give.

Students join the school board

Four student representatives joined the Beaverton School Board this month, giving the district's governing body direct student voices alongside the adult directors. The district also named its October Achiever, Charleen Cook, in its monthly recognition of staff.

Neither makes the news cycle the way a budget headline does, but both are the kind of small, positive notes that tell you how a school community actually runs.

Holiday plans start taking shape

Cedar Mill's annual holiday tree lighting at the plaza next to Insomnia Coffee is in the planning stages for December, per the Cedar Mill News, with the exact date posted closer to the season. And the rainy season arrived abruptly on Tuesday, October 27, with the first significant Cascade snow of the season on tap, a reminder that wet commutes are back.

We will add the tree-lighting date to our community calendar the moment it is confirmed.

The honest close

Every summary above comes from the linked reporting, and we read the full pieces before including them. We share these stories because they are useful or hopeful for people who live, work and house-hunt in this corridor: if any thread makes you curious about living here, ask us anything.

And if you are planning the next few weeks, our community calendar is refreshed with what is actually upcoming, from the farmers market's final Saturdays to the holiday shows at The Reser.
