Saqsaqa Park: A New Nature Park Opening in North Bethany

2026-10-02 5 min read Paul Knighton & Chris Hayes

A new park is coming to North Bethany

North Bethany is getting a new nature park. Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is developing Saqsaqa Park, a small, nature-based park near the corner of NW Heckman Lane and NW 159th Avenue, and it is the kind of project that quietly changes how a neighborhood feels. Here is what we can verify about it, straight from THPRD and the local reporting.

We are not the park district, so treat this as a useful heads-up rather than an official announcement. Where a detail is not yet settled, we say so plainly.

Where it is and what it is

Saqsaqa Park sits at the southeast corner of NW Heckman Lane and NW 159th Avenue in the North Bethany area, in a newer residential neighborhood. It is a compact site, roughly two acres, developed as a nature-based park rather than a big lawn-and-playground park.

That matters for the character of the space: the design leans into the natural setting instead of paving over it, which fits the feel of the newer Bethany neighborhoods built around trails and green space.

Wetland habitat at the heart of the design

The park is built along an established wetland habitat, and preserving that wetland is a core focus of the design. Expect native wetland plants, a natural buffer and a quiet, low-impact space rather than a heavily built recreation area.

For neighbors, that means a place to walk and watch the seasons, not a destination with ball fields. It is the kind of green space that makes the corridor feel connected to the landscape around it.

Trail connections

The biggest practical win is the trail link. The project will connect the North Bethany Creek Trail from NW 160th Avenue to NW Shackelford Road, closing a gap in the neighborhood trail network and making it easier to walk or ride from one part of North Bethany to another.

If you are a walker or a cyclist, that connection is worth knowing about even if you never set foot in the park itself. Trail connectivity is a big part of why these neighborhoods feel so walkable.

Timing and the honest caveat

Construction was underway as of summer 2026, with completion anticipated in fall 2026. THPRD's project page is the place to watch for an exact opening date, which had not been published in the reporting we checked this week.

So the honest answer is: it is close, but not yet open, and the official opening could slip. Bookmark THPRD's Saqsaqa Park page and check before you plan a visit.

What this means for neighbors and buyers

A new park and a trail connection are exactly the kind of amenity that shows up in the why-people-move-here conversation. Bethany's appeal has always leaned on walkable neighborhoods, good schools and nearby green space, and Saqsaqa Park adds another piece of that.

If you are weighing a home in North Bethany, a park like this is a real part of the day-to-day picture, and we can tell you what the surrounding streets are actually like to live on.

Ask us about the corridor

New parks, new trails, new construction: the corridor changes fast, and our job is to keep up so your home search is based on the current picture, not last year's. Ask us anything about North Bethany or the neighborhoods around it.

And if you come across a development we should cover next, send it our way and we will chase it down.
